Fox 13: Time is Ticking to Claim Stimulus Check
A lot of people haven’t gotten a check because the government has no way to get in touch with them.
“It’s pretty upsetting because it’s like what have they done that I haven’t?” said Michael Brown.
The first round of stimulus checks rolled out back in the Spring but Michael Brown is still waiting on his.
“I’ve done everything that needs to be done as far as filing taxes 2018, 2019. I haven’t received anything,” said Brown.
Time is ticking for Brown. He has one week to figure out why he has not received his $1,200 check.
“It’s never a good thing to miss out on some money,” said Brown.
But Brown is not alone.
Nearly nine million Americans have not received a stimulus payment.
According to the Government Accountability Office, there was no data for millions of people who do not normally file tax returns or do not collect Social Security payments.
“If the person received a refund those years make sure the method is still the same,” said Kameta Hopkins, tax preparer. “Is the bank account and mailing address the same?”
Hopkins broke down why you may not have received your money.
“A lot of people get into issues where they think their returns have been filed. They have paperwork from tax returns and it was never filed,” said Hopkins.
She said people can also use the IRS to find my payment tool. 5.3 million people received their money that way.
“Whatever information it’s asking for social, address. I logged it all in and it says status not available,” said Brown.
